Covid-19: Mbale Hospital Quarrantines An Italy Returnee

Mbale Hospital Quarrantines An Italy Returnee After Showing Covid-19 Symptoms

Two residents of Mbale Municipality have been quarantined at Mbale Hospital after showing symptoms of Coronavirus. One of the two had recently returned from Italy, one of the most affected countries. The victims are in quarantine at Municipal health center 3 which the government designated as an isolation center for Mbale.

Dr Wangisi said they picked the Italy returnee from Crown Suites Hotel where he had isolated himself. The workers of that place called them after the victim exhibited COVID-19 symptoms. The second victim returned from Kenya last week and it is the residents who called the health officials. He allegedly showed symptoms of Coronavirus too.

They have already taken their blood samples and swabbed specimens to Uganda Virus Research Institute for testing. The doctor further requested ministry of health to dispatch protective gear for health workers and all other necessary equipment so that they can diligently handle the pandemic. He added that the isolation center too need to be more equipped to handle the cases effectively.

The director of Mbale hospital, Dr Emmanuel Tugaineyo said eastern region is at high risk of coronavirus because of the porous border points with Kenya. This is despite the fact that authorities have even ordered for the closure of ungazzetted routes.

The President already ordered for the closure of all borders to ensure safety of the Ugandans. It seems though that it is hard to implement this directive which means if not dealt with the COVID 19 cases may increase from the already 9 confirmed that we have.
