“Greta Thunberg Was Troubled As A Child”-Mother Reveals

Greta Thunberg

Greta Thunberg, a well-known weather activist had a troubled childhood according to her mother. She amazingly transformed from a nearly 11-year-old mute to a weather activist.

Greta’s mom, Malena Ernman described how her daughter came to be diagnosed with Autism. Autism is a disorder characterized by difficulty in social interaction and communication. Activism helped Greta overcome an eating disorder.

‘’She was slowly disappearing into some kind of darkness. She stopped playing the piano, stopped laughing and talking. And even stopped eating.’’ Ernman says.

Ernman is a celebrated opera singer from Sweden and her husband Svante Thunberg an actor.

They struggled to deal with their daughter’s silence and refusal to eat anything. Greta would eat tiny amounts of rice, avocado, and gnocchi.

The 11-year-old lost 10kgs in 2 months and narrowly missed the hospital. Meanwhile, back at her school, Greta faced constant bullying, but the school said it was her own fault and cared less.

After recovering some weight, she gained an interest in the climate crisis. She had her big push from a film shown in class about rubbish in the oceans. And in the summer of 2018, Greta started her first school strike. Her father tried to persuade her to go home but she refused.

The time with other people had an unexpected effect on her because she started eating well and interacting with people.
